Autumn school 2026
The Study of Canada: Minority Perspectives Across Borders
October 1 and 2, 2026
University of St. Boniface, Winnipeg, Canada
The field of Canadian studies is often considered an English-language project whose primary function is to raise awareness in English-Canadian society about the fundamental issues that define Canada, its history and its present. However, the study of Canada is also conducted in French throughout Canada and abroad.
This fall school is an opportunity to highlight the work of francophone researchers located in Canada and internationally on various current topics, including:
La Francophonie
Canada’s relationship with Indigenous Peoples
The environment and the climate crisis
Multiculturalism and the management of diversity
Exchanges between Canada and the world (e.g., economic, cultural)
Immigration, integration and inclusion
We invite PhD students working on Canada from abroad to apply to this Fall School. Five students will be selected. They will present their work in French and forge links with established researchers working on the same themes. These students will also be invited to conduct a joint research project.
To be eligible, candidates must be officially registered in a postgraduate program outside of Canada and must specialize, at least in part, on a Canadian issue or reality. Candidates will be selected based on the quality of their academic record and the relevance of their research topic.
Interested persons must fill in the following form by 30 January 2026: https://forms.gle/NguYpQEyA4HMCm9.
This event is made possible thanks to the support of the Université de Saint-Boniface, the Robarts Centre for Canadian Studies at York University and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada
