Cod Coasts: Cultural Landscapes of the Cod Fishery in Newfoundland and Labrador

Stephen J. Hornsby is Professor Emeritus of Geography and Canadian Studies and former director of the Canadian-American Center at the University of Maine. A specialist in the historical geography of northeastern North America, he has published several prize-winning books, including Surveyors of Empire (2011) and the Historical Atlas of Maine (2015). His latest book, Cod Coasts: Cultural Landscapes of the Cod Fishery from Cape Cod to Labrador, was published this year. He is the recipient of the 2023 Donner Medal in Canadian Studies from the Association for Canadian Studies in the United States, and the 2025 Governor General's International Award in Canadian Studies from the International Council for Canadian Studies.

This Three Sisters Lecture Series event is presented by the International Council for Canadian Studies (ICCS) and the Centre for Newfoundland and Labrador Studies at SETU with support from the Government of Canada.
