BACS/UCL ONLINE EVENT - CANADA, THE UK AND THE INTERNATIONAL ORDER IN THE WAKE OF UKRAINE AND GAZA, MONDAY 28 OCTOBER 2024

Online presentation and Q and A via Zoom, 6.00pm-7.30pm (UK time) on Monday 28 October.

Chaired by the Hon Jean Charest, former Premier of Quebec and Deputy Prime Minister of Canada, the 2023 Canada-UK Colloquium in Toronto debated key foreign policy issues relating to Russia, Ukraine, China and the Middle East.

A second debate was on Energy, Sustainability and the Environment, and a third debate on science and technology, including Generative AI, Space, Cybersecurity and Critical Minerals.

Four members of the Colloquium - two from Canada and two from the UK - will discuss the current international situation and the roles of Canada and the UK in the wake of ongoing conflicts in Ukraine, Gaza, the Lebanon and elsewhere.

Panellists -

Ambassador Scott Proudfoot - ex Canadian Ambassador to South Sudan & previously to the Palestinian Authority. He was overall Rapporteur for the Toronto Colloquium. He also moderated the Colloquium's discussion on the Middle East

Hans Bathija - a graduate in Political Science from Glendon College, York University, and a Fellow of several learned societies, he lives in Toronto and was a member of the Canadian delegation at the Canada-UK Colloquium.

Professor Nicolas Maclean CMG, UK Co-Chair, The Canada-UK Council. A leader of the UK team in Toronto.

Thomas Nightingale, a Member of the UK Team in Toronto while a parliamentary researcher and Rapporteur for the Nuclear Energy discussion at the Colloquium.
