Senior Research Associate, Desi+: Digital Artistic Productions by Sikhs/Punjabi Artists

*The Desi+, research project, examine how South Asian artists use oral, written, visual and multimedia modes to express issues of gender, sexuality, class, and religion in their creative practices as linked to their Queer identity. This project is inspired by the recent rise of websites and social media profiles by Queer South Asian artists who use their cultural and religious backgrounds within their creations; my research focuses on the influences of changing demographics and diasporic communities in multicultural society and the shifting notions of sexualities, nation and belonging. These artists formulate new South Asian aesthetics that are based in identities which the second- and third-born generations or those raised in the diaspora are crafting.
