Carleton University's School of Canadian Studies & Azrieli School of Architecture & Urbanism present the 17th Annual Carleton University Heritage Conservation Symposium, On the Edge of Collapse: Changing Heritage for a Climate in Crisis.
This year's organizing committee invites submissions that address the critical intersections of climate justice and heritage conservation. Submissions may address the following key topics, or explore other innovative intersections of climate justice and heritage conservation:
Decolonizing Climate Action in Heritage
- Indigenous land stewardship and cultural practices
- Resource sovereignty and environmental governance
- Decolonizing approaches to environmental repair and justice
Social Justice in Heritage Conservation
- Housing insecurity and adaptive reuse
- Climate migration and cultural memory in displaced communities
- Environmental racism and its impact on heritage
Reimagining Heritage in a Changing World
- New narratives for cultural resilience
- Integrating climate science into heritage management
- Artistic and creative responses to heritage in crisis
Submissions are welcome from graduate students, community activists, professionals, and academics engaged in heritage conservation and related fields.
