Funded MA in Environmental Anthropology

I am seeking to recruit an MA student to carry out research and write a thesis on extractive industry’s consultation processes with Indigenous communities in the oil sands region. Research will involve remote interviews, policy research, and in situ ethnographic fieldwork. The successful candidate will have completed or be completing a BA or Honours BA in Anthropology or a closely related field. They will take courses in 2022-23 and begin thesis research in spring-summer, 2023. This project is part of a community-engaged, team-based, SSHRC-funded research program, which I am directing: Cultural Politics of Energy in Northern Alberta. I will pay the student a stipend of $16,000/yr. for two years, in addition to funding for fieldwork and conference travel. The student will also be expected to apply for other internal and external funding opportunities as appropriate and, if successful, will receive a reduced stipend as a top-up. I am seeking applicants with knowledge of Environmental Anthropology, Ethnography, and/or Indigenous Research. The Department of Archaeology and Anthropology at the University of Saskatchewan offers a supportive and convivial learning environment. The application deadline is January 15, 2022, for September admission.
