The Irving K Barber School of Arts and Sciences (IKBSAS), at the Okanagan Campus of the University of British Columbia, invites applications for a limited-term in Indigenous Studies, at the rank of Assistant Professor. The successful candidate will be a member of the the Indigenous Studies program in the Department of Community, Culture and Global Studies (http://ccgs.ok.ubc.ca/welcome.html). This is a 1-year appointment with an expected start date of July 1, 2019.
A doctoral degree in Indigenous Studies or a related field is required. Preference will be given to applicants who have demonstrable ability to maintain a strong research program and acquire research funding, and are committed to excellence in teaching. The area of research is open but the preferred candidate should be able to teach an upper-level course in either Cultural Heritage and Intellectual Property, Indigenous Governance, or Indigenous Justice.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach two courses per term, including but not limited to INDG 100 Introduction to Decolonization: Indigenous Studies, INDG 303 Indigenous Studies Theory and Method, and INDG 401. They will contribute to the intellectual and administrative activities within a multi-disciplinary department that includes Anthropology, Gender and Women’s Studies, Indigenous Studies, and Human Geography. Evidence of sustained engagement within and with Indigenous communities in Canada and/or comparative contexts is required. This colleague is also expected to provide service, commensurate with rank, that includes contributions to the enhancement of Indigenous Studies across campus, mentoring undergraduate students, and involvement in departmental meetings and committees.
